Principal Teacher and Director M.B.A.T.D.
Jennifer has over 13 years experience in teaching dance and created Starlight to share her passion of dance with others. Jennifer is fully qualified to Member level via the B.A.T.D. in Stage (Tap & Modern), Freestyle and Dance Cheer Pom and has achieved exceptionally high pass marks in all her professional qualifications. Jennifer has also attended the B.A.T.D. professional development day in Street Dance.
Jennifer is also accredited with Club SL (South Lanarkshire) and runs sessions within primary and secondary schools in East Kilbride.
Having danced since the age of 3, Jennifer's heart has always been in dance and to be able to teach others the joy of this hobby is her dream come true!
Jennifer believes that every dancer who comes through the Starlight doors has the ability to make themselves a great dancer and achieve goals through exams, shows and performances. "When you start dancing at Starlight you become a Starlighter! Part of the Starlight family. You will gain confidence, make new friends and learn a great sport that you can carry through your life. Not every hobby offers you this chance!"
In her spare time (which isn't much!) Jennifer likes to spend time with family, loves good food and cooking and going for walks and looks after her new Goldendoodle puppy!
Assistant Teacher and Street Dance Teacher A.B.A.T.D
Joanne has danced since the age of 3. Another Starlighter who has danced all their lives! Having originally joined Starlight as part of the adult classes, Joanne quickly became part of the Starlight team and started assisting in the children's classes in 2012. Since then, Joanne has gone on to gain her professional Associate qualification with the B.A.T.D. in Rock and Roll and attended the B.A.T.D. professional development day in Street Dance.
Joanne says she loves dance because "You can have fun whilst keeping fit, make new friends, learn new styles of dance and be part of the Starlight family where everyone supports each other." On teaching she says, "seeing young people develop self confidence and improving their dance technique are just a couple of things I love about teaching." Joanne believes that through attending Starlight and participating in exams and shows, dancers gain a real sense of personal achievement and in turn this increases confidence.
Joanne would like to continue to learn new dance styles & take further professional qualifications. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family, has conducted voluntary work with young people since 2009, enjoys going to the gym and as a treat, a wee spa day!
Administrator - Saturdays
Jean (Miss Jennifer's mum) takes the fees every week and makes up lovely sticker sheets for the Twinkly Star classes. She helps with shows and fundraisers and loves to support the school in any way she can.
Jean thinks dancing is good for pupils of Starlight as it is a safe, fun and friendly environment where they can keep fit, learn good social skills and make friends.
In her spare time, Jean likes to listen to every kind of music. She loves poetry and always feeds everyone who comes in to her house with big homely portions as she loves to cook!
Class Assistant - Saturdays
Erin has been dancing all her life but with Starlight since the school began. She's assisted with Miss Jennifer's classes since 2014 and really enjoys working with the children. Erin says "It is so rewarding watching them develop new skills whilst having fun at the same time."
As well as Erin assisting, she continues to dance in the Senior classes. She says, "Coming to dancing has always been a big part of my life. Not only do we learn how to dance but we have a great time, meet new friends and keep fit at the same time. I love performing at our shows but also enjoy the challenge of passing my exams. I aim to pass them all and hopefully achieve my teaching qualifications in the future."
Erin's spare time consists of dancing and doing acrobatic gymnastics. She has been a competitive gymnast for East Kilbride Gymnastics Club as long as she has been a dancer and have represented Scotland on many occasions. She loves music and has never been able to sit still. "I don't think I will ever stop dancing!" We think that's a 'Starlight' thing.........
The benefits of dance have been proven for a long time. Not only do you learn the moves but each dancer gains social skills, confidence, concentration skills, learns to work as a team, how to look after themselves and gains the ability to create beautiful movement through dance.
At Starlight we couldn't be more passionate about how great dancing is for everyone! That's why we are expanding and are now offering more classes than ever!
Miss Jennifer, Director and Principal Teacher at Starlight Dance says "I believe everyone has it in them to dance, to feel free and to make their hearts happy through dance. It's hard work but great fun too. Our classes are designed to bring out the best in each individual dancer and create a friendly, encouraging environment to do it in."
Having danced since she was 3, with over 11 years of teaching experience and full qualified through the B.A.T.D. you are in safe hands with Miss Jennifer and her team of teachers.
Starlight Dance offers classes in Tap, Modern, Freestyle, Dance Cheer Pom and Street for girls and boys aged 2.5+ and also for adults.
